Harry Potter recs from the recent Snarry Big Bang and the Draco Albus Lovefest:
A Match of Wits by oliversnape. A brilliant, slightly Slytherin post war Harry, an adorable odd creature, and a Severus who seems like he actually has a chance of being his own man. oliversnape is a fantastically good writer, and this completely lives up to his repuation.
Follow Me Home by emilywaters76. Serious BDSM that actually made to rethink one of my few remaining areas of discomfort with this kind of kink. The characters are flawed and defensive and simultaneously so open. Bottom!Snape, which I wish we saw more of.
Harry Potter and the Quest for the Sangreal by avioleta. A wonderful telling of Harry and Severus forced together by a quest. AND SHE WROTE ACTION SCENES! Much as I love sex, a well storyboarded action scene gets all my squee on. And yes, the sex is great too.
With Eyes Wide Open by suitesamba. Narcissa lifedebts Harry into marrying Severus for a-year-and-a-day. During that time, Harry discovers himself, Severus finds a modicum of happiness, and a manor is transformed into a home. The language and pacing are wonderful.
Consequences of Truth by altri_uccelli. This broke my heart and put it back together in an even better way. If you haven't yet read this, you are missing out on a wonderful story, and lyrical, magical language.
Hide Of A Life War (26023 words) by Etharei
Summary: “We have received confirmation that there is a hostage situation in progress at a warehouse compound two hours out of Los Angeles, following a multiple-vehicle pileup on Highway 101 this morning...”
The one in which Stiles has lived to (legal) adulthood and, along the way, become a bit of a badass himself.
Someone needs to podfic this one. It has great flow, and is totally made of awesome.
Regarding the Epigenetic Effects of Kissing Werewolves (33667 words) by Unloyal_Olio
Summary: Stiles's mom had tried to tell him before she died. He should have listened.
AU, dark, very funny, and fabulous.
A Cure For Boredom (81714 words) by emmagrant01
Summary: They'd never talked about sex in the year they'd known each other. Well, that wasn't quite correct: Sherlock had never said a word about sex; John had bemoaned his personal dearth of it on many occasions.
Probably my favorite John/Sherlock story ever.
Quintessential (49292 words) by thisprettywren
Summary: In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
Another incredibly thought provoking story by thisprettywren.
The Student Prince (145248 words) by FayJay
A Modern day Merlin AU set at the University of St Andrews, featuring teetotal kickboxers, secret wizards, magnificent bodyguards of various genders, irate fairies, imprisoned dragons, crumbling gothic architecture, arrogant princes, adorable engineering students, stolen gold, magical doorways, attempted assassination, drunken students, shaving foam fights, embarrassing mornings after, The Hammer Dance, duty, responsibility, friendship and true love...
This story was inspired by the thought of Prince William of Wales (and indeed the current Max von Hapsburg) studying at the University of St Andrews; it is also, as the title suggests, at least a little inspired by the operetta 'The Student Prince'.
This is the one to choose if you want just one story to keep you distracted until the morning.
